How to Change Your eBay Password and Secure Your Account

How to change an eBay password

Your eBay account is tied to your payment method, your buying history and — if you sell — your income, which makes it a prime target for account thieves. A strong, unique password is the simplest way to keep it safe. Our GetMyPassword team covers how to change your eBay password, reset it when you are locked out, and lock the account down with two-step verification.

Change your password in account settings

  1. Sign in at ebay.com and open Account settings.
  2. Go to Sign in and security (or Personal info).
  3. Select Edit next to Password.
  4. Enter your current password, then the new one, and save.

If you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple, there is no separate eBay password — manage the login through that provider instead.

Reset a forgotten password

On the sign-in page click Forgot password? and enter your email or username. eBay sends a verification code or reset link by email or text; follow it to set a new password. Keep your linked email secure, since it controls the reset and your order history.

After a suspicious login

Change the password immediately, then check your linked email, address and payment details for anything you did not change. Sellers should review recent listings and payouts. eBay accounts are often hijacked to post scam listings under a trusted name, so a quick review after any odd activity is worth it.

A stolen eBay account is valuable because it is trusted — buyers believe an established seller. That is exactly why protecting yours with a unique password and 2FA also protects the people who would deal with you.

Secure it with a unique password and 2FA

Give eBay a password you use nowhere else, created with our password generator, and turn on two-step verification under Sign in and security. With a login code required alongside the password, even a leaked login cannot reach your payments or listings.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change my eBay password if I forgot it?

How do I keep my eBay account secure?

Use a unique, strong password, enable two-step verification, keep your linked email secure, and be wary of phishing emails about “account problems” or fake buyer messages that try to harvest your login.
