How to Change Your Target Password and Secure Your Account

How to change a Target password

Your Target account ties together your orders, your RedCard, your Circle rewards and your saved address and cards. If someone gets in, they can place orders and drain your rewards, so the login deserves real protection. Our GetMyPassword team explains how to change your Target password, reset it when you are locked out, and keep the account secure.

Changing and securing a Target account.

Change your password in account settings

  1. Sign in at target.com or in the Target app.
  2. Open your Account, then settings or profile.
  3. Select password and choose to change it.
  4. Enter your current password, then a strong new one, and save.

Pick a long password you do not use anywhere else, so a leak on another site can never open your Target account.

Reset a forgotten password

On the sign-in page choose Forgot password? and enter your email. Target sends a reset link; open it and create a new password. Keep your email account secure, because anyone who controls it can reset your store login as well.

Protect your RedCard and rewards

Your account can hold your RedCard and Circle rewards, both of which are targets. Turn on any two-step verification Target offers, and watch for phishing: emails about an “order problem,” a “RedCard issue” or “rewards about to expire,” pushing you to log in through a link, are a common trick. Open the site or app yourself instead of tapping the link.

A store account with a saved card and a store credit card attached is as good as a wallet to a thief. A unique password and a wary eye on “order” and “reward” emails keep it shut.

Lock it down with a generated password

Create a long, random password for Target with our password generator and store it in a password manager. With two-step verification and the habit of never logging in through email links, your orders, RedCard and rewards stay in your hands.
