Your Twitch account is linked to your payment details, your subscriptions and — for many people — a public identity with followers. That makes a strong, current password essential, whether you are tightening security or you suspect someone else signed in. Our GetMyPassword team covers how to change your Twitch password from the website, how to reset it when you are locked out, and how to keep your channel safe afterwards.

Change your password from account settings
- Sign in at twitch.tv and click your profile picture, then Settings.
- Open the Security and Privacy tab.
- Under Security, click Change Password.
- Enter your current password, then the new one, and save.
Changing your password signs you out of other sessions on the web, which is exactly what you want if you are locking out an intruder.
Reset it when you are locked out
On the login screen click Trouble logging in? and enter your email or phone number. Twitch sends a reset link or a verification code; follow it to set a new password. If you no longer have access to that email, you will need to contact Twitch support, so keep your contact details current.
If your account was compromised
Reset the password immediately, then in Settings → Security and Privacy review Connections and active sessions, and disconnect anything you do not recognise. Check that your email is unchanged — attackers often swap it to keep a foothold — and re-secure that inbox too, since it controls every reset.
For streamers, two-factor authentication is not optional. Twitch can require it for monetised channels, and a phone-based code stops an attacker even if your password leaks in an unrelated breach.
Set a unique password and turn on 2FA
The fastest way to lose an account is to reuse a password that leaked somewhere else. Give Twitch a unique one from our password generator, then enable two-factor authentication under Security and Privacy. With a unique password plus a login code, takeover attempts almost always fail.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reset my Twitch password without the email?
If you added a phone number, you can reset by SMS instead. Otherwise you must contact Twitch support and verify ownership, which is why keeping a current, accessible email on the account matters.
Why does Twitch say my new password is invalid?
Twitch requires a minimum length and rejects passwords found in known breaches. Use a longer, unique password — a generated one easily meets the rules.
Will changing my password log out my devices?
Yes. Changing your Twitch password ends other web sessions, so you will sign in again on each device. This is useful for removing anyone who had unauthorised access.
