Firefox Password Manager: How to Use and Manage Your Passwords Efficiently

Firefox password manager and the about:logins page

If Firefox is your browser, it has quietly been saving your logins all along — and getting to them is far simpler than most people realise. Whether you need to copy a password to another device, tidy up old entries or just check what’s stored, Firefox’s built-in password manager has it covered. We at GetMyPassword show you how to find, view, edit and remove your saved passwords, and how to keep them safe.

Open the Firefox password manager

There are two quick ways in:

  • Click the menu button (three lines) and choose Logins and Passwords.
  • Or type about:logins into the address bar and press Enter.

Either opens the about:logins page, where every saved login is listed down the left-hand side.

View, copy, edit and remove passwords

From that page you have full control over each entry:

  • Search — type a site, username or password in the search box to filter the list.
  • View — click the eye icon to reveal a hidden password.
  • Copy — copy a username or password with one click.
  • Edit — update a username or password after you’ve changed it on a site.
  • Remove — delete a login you no longer need.

On Windows and macOS, Firefox asks for your operating-system login (or Touch ID) before it reveals, copies or edits a password — an extra layer so someone at your desk can’t simply read them.

Sync your passwords across devices

Sign in to a Firefox Account and your saved logins follow you to Firefox on your phone, tablet and other computers. It’s the same vault everywhere, so a password saved on your laptop is ready on your Android the next time you need it. Without an account, the passwords stay only on the device where you saved them.

Add a Primary Password for extra safety

For shared computers, Firefox lets you set a Primary Password that must be entered once per session before any login can be used or viewed. Combined with the OS check, it’s a solid free setup. And when the manager flags a weak or reused entry, replace it with a strong one from our password generator — our guide to browser password managers explains how these tools fit together.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Firefox ask for my computer password?

On Windows and macOS, Firefox requires your operating-system login or Touch ID before revealing, copying or editing a saved password, to stop others reading your logins.

How do I sync Firefox passwords to my phone?

Sign in to a Firefox Account in the browser on each device. Your saved logins then sync automatically to Firefox on your phone, tablet and computers.
