PlayStation Password Reset: Secure Your Gaming Account!

How to reset your PlayStation Network password

Few things are more frustrating than sitting down to game and finding your PlayStation Network account won’t let you in. Whether you’ve forgotten the password or you’re worried someone else got hold of it, resetting it only takes a few minutes — from a browser or straight from your console. We at GetMyPassword take you through both routes and the identity checks Sony uses to keep your account yours.

Reset a forgotten PSN password from a browser

  1. Go to the PlayStation Account Management sign-in screen and choose Trouble signing in?
  2. Select Recover your account under “I forgot my password or can’t use my passkey.”
  3. Enter the sign-in ID (the email address) on your PSN account and click Send Link.
  4. Open the verification email and click the secure link — it expires after 24 hours.
  5. Confirm your identity (date of birth, mobile number or security question), then create a new password.

The date of birth must match the one used when the account was first created, so enter it carefully.

Reset it directly on your console

Prefer to stay on the couch? You can reach the sign-in and recovery screen from the console itself:

  • PS5: Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Sign In.
  • PS4: Settings → Account Management → Sign In.

From there, choose the “can’t sign in” option and follow the same verification steps. Your new password should mix uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters to meet Sony’s strength rules.

Lock the account down after you’re back in

A PSN account holds your payment details and your game library, so it’s a tempting target. Once you’ve reset the password, turn on 2-step verification in your account security settings, and consider setting up a passkey — Sony now supports the passwordless sign-in we describe in our password manager guide. For the password itself, skip anything guessable and create a strong, unique one with our password generator.
