Cash App is a little different from most accounts: it does not really use a traditional password. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your phone or email, and your money is guarded by an in-app PIN. That changes what “securing it” means. Our GetMyPassword team explains how to manage your Cash App login, lock the app down, and protect the money inside.

How Cash App login actually works
Instead of a password, Cash App sends a one-time sign-in code to your registered phone number or email each time you log in. This means the security of your Cash App rests on two things: access to that phone or email, and the PIN or biometric you set inside the app. Protect those, and you protect your balance.
Set the in-app Security Lock
In the app, open your profile, then Privacy & Security, and turn on Security Lock so every payment requires your PIN, Touch ID or Face ID. Choose a PIN that is not 1234 or your birth year. This single setting stops anyone who picks up your unlocked phone from sending your money.
Protect the email and phone behind it
Because login codes go to your email and phone number, those accounts are the real keys to your Cash App. Give your email a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication, and ask your carrier about a SIM-swap lock. If someone hijacks your number or inbox, they can receive your Cash App codes — so harden them first.
With Cash App, there is no password to crack — so attackers go after your phone number, your email, or your trust. Most losses come from scams and SIM swaps, not hacking, which is why those are what you defend.
Watch for scams
Cash App is a favorite of scammers. Cash App support will never ask for your PIN or sign-in code, and “cash flipping” offers that promise to multiply your money are always fraud. Never share a login code with anyone. For the email that guards your account, create a strong password with our password generator — it is the foundation the rest of your Cash App security stands on.
Frequently asked questions
Does Cash App have a password?
Not a traditional one. Cash App signs you in with a one-time code sent to your phone or email, and protects payments with an in-app PIN or biometric. Securing your email, phone and PIN is what matters.
How do I make my Cash App more secure?
Turn on Security Lock so payments require your PIN or biometric, protect your email with a strong password and 2FA, guard your phone number against SIM swaps, and never share a sign-in code.
Will Cash App support ask for my PIN or code?
Never. Any message asking for your PIN, sign-in code or “verification” is a scam, as are offers to multiply your money. Real Cash App support will not request those details.
