How to See Your Saved Wi-Fi Password on Android

How to see your saved Wi-Fi password on Android

A friend asks for your Wi-Fi, and your mind goes blank — that long password you typed in once, months ago, is gone. The good news is that your Android phone never forgot it. Every network you’ve ever joined is saved on the device, and getting the password back takes only a few taps. We at GetMyPassword show you how to reveal it on stock Android and on Samsung, how to share it without reading it aloud, and how to do it all without rooting your phone.

See a saved Wi-Fi password on stock Android

On phones running Android 10 or newer — Pixel, Motorola, Nokia and most others — the password is just a couple of screens away:

  1. Open Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the network you’re connected to, or open Saved networks to pick another one.
  3. Tap Share. A QR code appears.
  4. Confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN — the password is printed in plain text right beneath the QR code.

Find your Wi-Fi password on a Samsung Galaxy

Samsung does things slightly differently: it shows a QR code but doesn’t print the password as text. Go to Settings → Connections → Wi-Fi, tap the gear icon next to your network, then tap QR code. To read the actual characters, screenshot that code and scan it with a QR reader — the password is embedded inside and will appear in the scan result.

Share the network without saying the password out loud

Often you don’t need the password at all — you just need the other phone online. That QR code is the fastest way: open your camera (or any iPhone or Android camera) and point it at the code, and the second device joins instantly. On Android 12 and later there’s also a Nearby button that beams the network to phones around you with a tap, no typing required.

A note on rooting and old phones

You may read that viewing Wi-Fi passwords needs root access. That was true years ago, but on any modern Android the Share/QR method works without root at all. Only very old versions (Android 9 and earlier) lack it — there, your quickest option is to log in to your router’s settings page and read the Wi-Fi key there.

Is your home Wi-Fi password actually strong?

If retrieving your password just reminded you that it’s something like “home12345”, now is a good moment to upgrade it. A weak Wi-Fi key lets neighbours — or worse — onto your network. Generate a long, random one with our password generator, then set it in your router. While you’re tightening things up, it’s worth letting your phone remember your logins safely too; see our guide to Google Password Manager for that.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see my Wi-Fi password on Android without root?

Yes. On Android 10 and newer, open Wi-Fi settings, tap your network, then Share, and the password appears under the QR code after you verify your identity. No root or app is needed.

How do I find the Wi-Fi password on a Samsung phone?

Go to Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi, tap the gear next to your network and choose QR code. Samsung hides the text, so screenshot the QR code and scan it to read the password.

Can I view the password for a network I’m not connected to?

Yes, as long as you’ve connected to it before. Open Wi-Fi settings, go to Saved networks, choose the network and use the same Share option to reveal its password.

How do I share Wi-Fi without showing the password?

Let the other person scan your network’s QR code, or use the Nearby button on Android 12 and later. Both connect the device without ever displaying the password.
