Discord sits at the centre of your gaming and community life — servers, friends, and sometimes Nitro billing — which makes it a constant target for token-stealing scams. Keeping the password fresh and unique is the simplest defence. Our GetMyPassword team covers how to change your Discord password, reset it when you are locked out, and lock the account down so a stolen password is not enough to get in.

Change your password in settings
- Open Discord and click the gear icon (User Settings).
- Go to My Account and choose Change Password (or Edit).
- Enter your current password, then the new one.
- Save — Discord may ask for your 2FA code to confirm.
The steps are the same on desktop, browser and mobile, all under User Settings → My Account.
Reset a forgotten password
On the login screen click Forgot your password? and enter your email. Discord sends a reset link; open it and set a new password. You need access to that email, so keep it secure — if you lost the email too, recover it with your email provider first.
If your account was compromised
Change the password immediately, which logs out all sessions, then check Authorized Apps and your linked email under settings. Most Discord hacks start with a fake “free Nitro” link or a malicious app that steals your login token — so revoke anything unfamiliar and never enter your password on a site that is not discord.com.
No legitimate giveaway ever needs your Discord password or asks you to “verify” by logging in through a link. Those messages, even from a hacked friend, are the number one way Discord accounts get stolen.
Lock it down with a unique password and 2FA
Give Discord a password you use nowhere else, created with our password generator, and turn on two-factor authentication under My Account. With 2FA, even a stolen password cannot log an attacker in, and you keep your servers, friends and Nitro safely yours.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change my Discord password if I forgot it?
On the login screen click “Forgot your password?”, enter your email, and follow the reset link Discord sends. You will need access to that email account to complete the reset.
Why does Discord ask for a 2FA code to change my password?
If you enabled two-factor authentication, Discord confirms the change with your code so that someone who only knows your old password cannot reset it. Keep your 2FA backup codes safe.
How do I recover a hacked Discord account?
Reset the password via your email, then enable 2FA and revoke unknown authorized apps. If the attacker changed your email, use Discord’s account recovery and contact support to verify ownership.
