How to Change Your Etsy Password and Secure Your Shop

How to change an Etsy password

Your Etsy account holds your payment details, order history and — if you sell — your shop, reviews and income, which makes it a tempting target for thieves. A strong, unique password is the simplest way to keep it safe. Our GetMyPassword team covers how to change your Etsy password, reset it when you are locked out, and lock the account down with two-factor authentication.

Change your password in account settings

  1. Sign in at etsy.com and open Account settings.
  2. Go to the Security tab.
  3. Select Change next to Password.
  4. Enter your current password, then the new one, and save.

If you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple, there is no separate Etsy password — manage the login through that provider instead.

Reset a forgotten password

On the sign-in page click Forgot your password? and enter your account email. Etsy sends a reset link; open it and create a new password. Keep that email account secure, since whoever controls it can reset your Etsy login and reach your payment details.

After a suspicious login

Change the password immediately, then review your linked email, address and payment methods for anything you did not change. Sellers should check recent listings and payouts. Hijacked Etsy shops are used to post scam listings under a trusted name, so a quick review after any odd activity is worth it.

A trusted seller account is worth more to a scammer than a new one, because buyers believe its reviews. Protecting yours with a unique password and 2FA also protects every customer who would trust your shop.

Secure it with a unique password and 2FA

Give Etsy a password you use nowhere else, created with our password generator, and turn on two-factor authentication under Security. With a login code required alongside the password, even a leaked login cannot reach your payments or your shop.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change my Etsy password if I forgot it?

On the sign-in page click “Forgot your password?”, enter your account email, and follow the reset link Etsy sends. You need access to that email to complete the reset.

Why can’t I change my Etsy password?

If you signed up with Google, Facebook or Apple, Etsy has no separate password — manage it with that provider. Otherwise, make sure your new password meets the requirements and differs from the old one.

How do I keep my Etsy shop secure?

Use a unique, strong password, enable two-factor authentication, keep your linked email secure, and be wary of phishing emails about “account problems” or fake buyer messages that try to harvest your login.
