How to Change Your Reddit Password and Secure Your Account

How to change a Reddit password

Your Reddit account carries your post history, saved communities and, if you have Premium, billing details — so a fresh, unique password is worth a minute of your time. Whether you are tightening security or recovering from a suspicious login, our GetMyPassword team covers how to change your Reddit password, reset it when you are locked out, and protect your account with two-factor authentication.

Change your password in settings

  1. Sign in at reddit.com and open Settings from your profile menu.
  2. Go to the Account tab.
  3. Select Change password.
  4. Enter your current password, then the new one twice, and save.

The steps are the same in the mobile app under Settings → Account Settings, and the change applies everywhere you are signed in.

Reset a forgotten password

On the login screen click Forgot password? and enter your username or the email on your account. Reddit sends a reset link; open it and set a new password. If you never added an email, recovery is very difficult — which is a good reason to add one now under Account settings.

After a suspicious login

Change the password immediately, then check Settings → Safety & Privacy and your connected apps, removing anything you do not recognise. Reddit also lets you review active sessions — end any you did not start. If you reused this password elsewhere, change it on those sites too.

Adding an email and two-factor authentication is the difference between a quick reset and losing your account forever. Without a recovery email, a forgotten Reddit password can be nearly impossible to restore.

Secure it with a unique password and 2FA

Give Reddit a password you use nowhere else, created with our password generator, and turn on two-factor authentication under Account settings. A unique password plus a login code means even a leaked password cannot get an attacker into your account.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset my Reddit password without an email?

It is very difficult — Reddit recovery relies on a registered email. If you never added one, contact Reddit support, but success is not guaranteed. Add an email now to avoid being locked out later.

Why is Reddit not accepting my new password?

It must meet the minimum length and differ from the old one. Reddit also rejects very common passwords, so a longer, unique password — ideally generated — will be accepted.

How do I make my Reddit account more secure?

Add a recovery email, use a unique strong password, and enable two-factor authentication under Account settings. Periodically review active sessions and connected apps for anything unfamiliar.
