TikTok is tied to your phone number, your email and sometimes your card details, so a stale or shared password is a real risk. Whether you just want a stronger one or you suspect someone else got in, changing it takes under a minute. Our GetMyPassword team covers how to change your TikTok password from inside the app, how to reset it when you have been locked out, and how to lock the account down afterwards.

Change your password inside the app
- Open TikTok and tap Profile, then the menu (≡) in the top corner.
- Go to Settings and privacy → Account → Password.
- Enter your current password, then the new one twice.
- Tap Change password — you will stay logged in on this device.
Reset it if you are locked out
On the login screen tap Forgot password? and choose to reset via your phone number or email. TikTok sends a 6-digit code; enter it and set a new password. If you signed up with Google, Facebook or Apple, use Continue with… instead — your password lives with that provider, not TikTok.
If you think the account was hacked
Change the password immediately, then open Settings → Security & permissions → Manage devices and log out any session you do not recognise. Check that the linked email and phone number are still yours — attackers often swap them to keep control.
Changing the password alone is not enough after a breach. Turn on two-step verification and review your linked devices — otherwise an intruder with an active session can simply set a new password back.
Lock it down with a strong, unique password
Reusing your TikTok password on other sites is the most common way accounts get taken over. Give it a unique one created with our password generator, then enable two-step verification under Security so a code is needed alongside the password. Together they stop the vast majority of takeover attempts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change my TikTok password if I forgot it?
On the login screen tap “Forgot password?” and reset using your phone number or email. TikTok sends a 6-digit code; enter it and create a new password. Accounts created via Google, Facebook or Apple are reset through that provider.
Why can’t I change my TikTok password?
If you signed up with a social login, TikTok has no separate password to change — manage it with Google, Facebook or Apple. Otherwise, make sure you entered the current password correctly and that your new one meets the length requirement.
How do I keep my TikTok account secure?
Use a unique, strong password, turn on two-step verification, and periodically review Manage devices to log out unknown sessions. Keep the linked email and phone number accurate so you can always recover access.
