How to Manage Passwords on iPhone: View, AutoFill and Secure

How to manage saved passwords on an iPhone

Your iPhone already holds dozens of logins, and recent versions of iOS turned that scattered list into a proper, well-organised vault. Knowing how to manage it means faster sign-ins, instant warnings when a password leaks, and one less reason to reuse the same weak code everywhere. Our GetMyPassword team walks through the built-in Passwords app and AutoFill so you can take full control of every credential on your iPhone.

Where your passwords live on iOS

On iOS 18 and later there is a dedicated Passwords app on the home screen. On earlier versions, the same vault sits under Settings → Passwords. Either way it is protected by Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode, and it syncs across your Apple devices through iCloud Keychain — so a login saved on your iPhone appears on your Mac too.

View, edit and delete a saved login

  1. Open the Passwords app and authenticate with Face ID.
  2. Tap any entry to see the username, password and linked website.
  3. Tap Edit to update a changed password or add notes.
  4. Swipe left or use Delete Password to remove an old account.

Turn on AutoFill so you never type again

Go to Settings → General → AutoFill & Passwords and enable AutoFill Passwords. Now, whenever you open a login screen in Safari or an app, iOS offers the saved credential above the keyboard — one tap and you are in. The same screen lets you pick a third-party manager if you use one instead of iCloud Keychain.

Act on security recommendations

The Passwords app flags logins that are reused, weak, or found in a known data leak under Security. This is the most valuable feature most people ignore. Work through that list, change the flagged passwords, and your overall security jumps without any extra apps.

A password manager is only as strong as the device lock protecting it. If your iPhone opens with a simple four-digit code, upgrade to a six-digit PIN or alphanumeric passcode — that is the real key to your entire vault.

Replace the weak passwords it finds

When iOS flags a weak or reused login, do not invent another easy-to-type variation — that is how reuse spreads. Generate a unique, strong password with our password generator, paste it into the site’s change-password page, and let the Passwords app save the new one. Because your iPhone remembers it for you, the password never has to be memorable — only strong.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see all saved passwords on my iPhone?

Open the Passwords app (iOS 18+) or go to Settings → Passwords on earlier versions, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. Every saved login is listed alphabetically and searchable.

Are iPhone passwords synced to my other Apple devices?

Yes, if iCloud Keychain is on. Saved logins sync securely across iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in to the same Apple Account, so you only need to update a password once.

Is the built-in Passwords app safe enough?

For most people, yes. It is end-to-end encrypted, warns about leaked passwords, and is locked behind your device biometrics. A dedicated manager adds cross-platform support, but Apple’s vault is a solid, free option.
