Edge Browser Password Manager: How to Store and Manage Your Passwords Safely

Microsoft Edge password manager

If Microsoft Edge is your browser, it has been saving your logins all along — and the built-in Microsoft Password Manager makes them easy to find, view and tidy up. Whether you need a password on another device or you’re checking which ones are weak, it’s all a couple of clicks away. We at GetMyPassword show you how to find and manage your saved passwords in Edge, and how to run the built-in security check.

Find your saved passwords in Edge

  1. Click Settings and more (the three dots, top-right) and choose Settings.
  2. Open Passwords and autofill, then Microsoft Password Manager.
  3. Browse the list, or search for a specific site.

To reveal a single password, select it and click the eye icon beside it, then enter your device password or PIN to confirm it’s you. The same screen lets you edit or delete any entry.

How Edge keeps them safe and synced

The Microsoft Password Manager is free and built into both Edge and your Microsoft account. It encrypts the usernames and passwords you save and syncs them to every device where you sign in to Edge with the same profile — so a password saved on your laptop is ready on your phone. The catch: make sure you’re signed in to your Microsoft account, or your saved passwords may not appear.

Run a password security check

Edge can tell you which of your saved passwords are weak, reused or caught in a known data breach. Go to Settings → Passwords and autofill → Microsoft Password Manager → Password security check and click Check. Anything it flags is worth fixing immediately.

A browser flagging a “leaked” password isn’t an accusation — it means that exact password has appeared in a public breach somewhere and should be changed wherever you use it.

Replace the weak ones properly

When the security check highlights a weak or reused password, don’t just tweak it — replace it with something long and random from our password generator, then save the new one back into Edge. If you use more than one browser, our guide to browser password managers explains how the different vaults compare and how to keep them straight.
